Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexual health is a delicate matter. Many people who have an STD may not be aware of this, because lot of people don’t develop any symptoms. The GPs at IHCR are experienced in diagnosing sexually transmitted infections and can provide a proper treatment. They can carry out a sexual health screen to check for gonorrhoea, HIV, chlamydia, syphilis and Hepatitis A, B or C. Regular sexual health screens are advised depending on the number of sexual partners you have and whether proper protection (condoms) is used.

Sexual health – better safe than sorry

To prevent yourself from getting a sexual transmitted disease, the best way is to use a condom when having intercourse. In the Netherlands condoms are available in almost every supermarket, pharmacies and even a lot of clubs and restaurants have vending machines. Female condoms are harder to obtain, but are available in most pharmacies. You can get them without a prescription.

If it is positive, or if you had symptoms but it was negative, please book an appointment with us.

In the Netherlands, you usually get tested for chlamydia/gonorrhea first. HIV/hep B/syfilis are tested only if you test positive for chlamydia/gonorrhea. If you are at a increased risk, you can discuss with the GP about doing all STDs at once.

Cost

Usually, certain groups (like <25 year olds) can get tested through the GGD for free. However, now with Covid they are referring everyone to the GPs.
