Vaccinations

Are you planning a trip abroad? For business or pleasure? Then travel health is an important aspect to take into account. For certain countries you will need the proper vaccinations, which our GPs can administer.

Prepare your trip well

When it comes to travel health, you will need to prepare your trip well. It is recommended that you see a doctor at least four weeks prior to your trip. A vaccination protects you from certain illnesses, but a vaccine needs some time to do its work. Vaccines are made from the germs that actualy cause the disease. The germs in a vaccine are either killed or weakened, so you won’t get sick. Your body has to build up resistance against the germs. Your immune system reacts to the germs and starts making antibodies, which kill the germs. The antibodies stay present in your body to protect you from the disease. This proces of giving you immunity takes some time, so that is why it is important to visit the GP in time.

Common travel health vaccinations

At IHCR we keep most common travel vaccines for adults as well as children, so we don’t have to order them. In general, when you schedule an appointment you will be able to get your vaccination within a few days. More uncommon vaccines may take up more time to obtain. Most common vaccine-preventable travel diseases are:

  • cholera
  • polio
  • yellow fever
  • typhoid
  • hepatitis A
  • hepatitis B
